Screw minimalism. Look, what good has minimalism ever done to you? I feel so fed up by the “all black” and “neutral girlie” looks I feel like they had been IV-fed into us since the unofficial end of the pandemic that I can’t bear this any longer. I actually have nothing against beige & taupe but at the same time I feel like it’s time to add some colors and patterns into our lives. I took my sweet time to take a good look at what budget & mid range brands have to offer that can fill in the gaps in your Spring-Summer wardrobe. I was mainly looking at basic pieces that go… well, beyond the basics. The ones that serve the function and at the same time have some personality.

At the risk of sounding very judgy (which I most certainly am) if you do want to wear those neutrals and look like the It-girls from high end street you absolutely want to throw in a few solid colors or patterns otherwise you might just end up looking as a high school teacher or a bank clerk - nothing wrong with that if that’s your profession and style of choice of course. To be perfectly clear when you’re only ever buy neutrals you end up with a closet filled with things that all match each other but never match who you really are.

I want to start with & Other Stories because at this time it’s offering the best of every world style & fashion industry has to offer: soft classics with a modern twist, limited editions that usually represent the latest trends, natural (or mostly natural) materials - all at rather affordable prices. Every item that I ever bought from & Other Stories lately has been of greatest quality and once the season was over it was very easy to resell their clothes at Poshmark which is always a great indicator too.

This season they have truly outdone themselves with their latest collection. The look above is linked as is here.

A few more of my favorite pieces are linked in the carousel below.

I’m not a huge H&M lover with the exception of a few items that they manage to manufacture so well I would’ve never told it’s H&M if I hadn’t known. I’m mainly talking about their linen and some of their silk creations. Linen IS the best though, especially their home and “premium” line. Usually I would suggest waiting until it’s all on sale but these things do sell out rather quickly. I own quite a few of their linen bathrobes, the oldest one dates back to 2019 and it only gets better and softer with every wash.

If you want to stick to neutrals this Summer go with lots of volume in natural fabrics and linen is a perfect solution for wide leg trousers, oversized shirts and menswear inspired blazers.

Madewell has also been truly amazing lately. With their in store collection it often is a hit or miss but I strongly suggest going online and looking through what they have to offer especially in the section of leather goods and accessories. I just got their new suede bucket tote and I’m simply over the moon about the design and quality. Also what a perfect place to shop for Summer dresses and denim.

Everlane is famous for it’s basics and neutrals; love how they added a few gorgeous colors that will work great together with any neutral base but it’s the shapes that make this collection extraordinarily modern, clean and at the same time timelessly chic: the barrel leg jeans, oversized double breasted blazers and cross over sandals.

Anthropologie makes some amazing dresses with their in-home brands every year but it’s their curated collection that I’m on the look out especially in Spring & Summer.

Well, what do you think? Has anything caught your eye? What are you shopping for right now? I’ll be updating this article as some of the pieces might sold out and maybe adding some newly found treasures closer to Summer!

Thanks for reading until the very end!
